rachel is at the cmc and anthony. rich, let's start with you. what do you think of this today? >> jackie d., this is all a currency move. we talked about it on the program yesterday briefly that gold here is not a safe haven. in fact, it's basically a currency. as you see the dollar break out and we put out a chart on twitter earlier, clearly breaking out, if we sustain that rally, i think gold might have some more pressure to the downside. so really we broke your key level of $1,700 early on and the next support level around 92 and it becomes a bear selling affair. would i sell it here down 33 bucks? no. do i want to try to catch a falling knife? probably not coming into the afternoon on friday. so i'll probably let this digest a bit, see how the dollar closes, and then maybe make a better decision sunday night into monday. >> you know, rich, i'm looking at gold and i see a market that qe kept it higher and the uncertainty of the election and the fiscal cliff. now i think the election is on tuesday, one way or another that's resolved. fiscal cliff not so much. if romney does w

rachel joins us in the wake of those numbers. rachel, good morning to you. good to see you again. >> thank you for having me. >> does this mark a turn at least in the u.s.? >> well, we've been talking about the mean re version trade for 2013. i think you should keep in mind that the company does have exceptionally difficult compares coming up in december, and again in the first quarter. given the very warm weather we had last year. it is some positive momentum in the right direction. but it may be premature to call it a complete turn right now. >> yeah. how about the rest of the world, where it appears they are facing maybe stiffer headwinds than stateside? >> well, the great news for them, specifically in china, they actually posted better than expected results. after we saw out of yum, where they posted a negative 4%, i think that will give investors a poost about their trends in that market. >> rachel, what's your take on what contributed or what caused the turn that we saw in mcdonald's in the month of november? was it the focus on the dollar menu? chedd

rachel, i'll start off with you. what sort of impact could we see potentially in the month of december? i read in the past, in 2010 at least, one of these limited introduction offers that it actually boosted sales by almost 5%. >> i think it depends on what the lto is and what the prior year same-store comparison is. i wouldn't expect to see a positive number of the magnitude that you're discussing. actually, frankly, it will probably be something in the single digit negatives. but at least it's a tried-and-true product they know customers will come in for. >> nicole, if the mcrib is so loved, is that why it's always limited, a limited time offer? why don't they just put it on the menu? >> absolutely, it's one of the most anticipated product launches of the year. by to some degree it's tried and tested, but the best thing is to use what you know. they're going up against the most difficult comparison of the year at plus ten. we think a down low single digit would be good. if they could get the flat, it would be great
